Terms of Service
Last updated: June 30, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of Lumen (the “Service”). Lumen is a product of dSquare (SMC-Private) Limited, a company incorporated in Pakistan (“dSquare”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Lumen is currently offered on an invite-only basis. Access may be limited, changed, or withdrawn at any time.
2. What Lumen is — and what it is not
Lumen is an independent tool that helps you collect, organize, and understand your own utility bills — electricity, gas, and water — across the properties you manage. It brings your bills and usage into one place and turns them into insights.
Lumen is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any utility company, distribution company, or government body. We have no relationship with the utility providers whose bills you choose to track. All provider names, marks, and bill data belong to their respective owners. Lumen simply helps you keep track of information that is already yours.
3. Your information and consent
To use Lumen you add the consumer details for the utility connections you want to follow — for example a consumer or reference number printed on your own bill. By adding these details, you confirm that you are the account holder or are otherwise authorized to access and monitor those bills.
We only retrieve bills for the consumer information you yourself provide. Lumen does not search for, browse, or collect bills for any connection you have not explicitly added to your account. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter and for ensuring you have the right to track those connections.
You may remove a connection at any time, after which Lumen stops fetching new bills for it.
4. How bill retrieval works
When you add a connection, Lumen periodically looks up the publicly available bill for that consumer number using the same information you would use to view it yourself, and stores a copy so you can see history, usage, and trends over time.
This is a high-level description only. Lumen accesses publicly available bill information on your behalf; it does not bypass logins, paywalls, or security measures, and it does not access anything you could not already view yourself with your own consumer details.
5. Fair usage policy
Lumen retrieves bills at a modest, automated cadence intended only to keep your records current. To protect the Service and the systems it reads from, we apply fair-use limits, which may include:
- a reasonable cap on the number of connections per account;
- limits on how often bills are refreshed;
- rate limits and throttling to avoid placing undue load on any third-party system; and
- restrictions on automated, bulk, or commercial-scale use of the Service.
You agree not to use Lumen to harvest bills at scale, to monitor connections that are not yours, or in any way that could burden, disrupt, or harm a utility provider’s systems. We may adjust these limits, and may slow, suspend, or stop retrieval for any account that exceeds fair use or appears to be misusing the Service.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- add or track connections you do not own or are not authorized to monitor;
- use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or related systems;
- interfere with, overload, or disrupt the Service or the networks it relies on; or
- copy, resell, or commercially exploit the Service or its data without our permission.
7. Accuracy and reliance
Bill and usage information shown in Lumen originates from third parties and is provided for your convenience. It may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Lumen is not a billing authority — always treat the bill issued by your utility provider as the authoritative source, and pay through official channels. Do not rely on Lumen for payment due dates or amounts without confirming with your provider.
8. Accounts and security
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
9. Availability and changes to the Service
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind. We may add, change, or remove features, and may suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lumen and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on information shown in the Service, including missed payments, late fees, or disconnections. Your use of the Service is at your own risk.
11. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, exceed fair-use limits, or if we discontinue the Service. You may stop using Lumen and request deletion of your account at any time.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Pakistan.
